ABOUT
Kram (Spiderbait) – "Melbourne has produced so many great new writers and I would add Rhea to that list."
Steph Hughes (triple j) – "Such great shimmy pop with a trippy sprinkle. Melodies so big and true."
Dave Ruby Howe (triple j) – "Rhea's got a bottomless bag of hits. By now I'm fairly certain she's part of the Melbourne songwriting Illuminati (ft. other elites like Courtney Barnett, Caleb from Tiny Little Houses, Alex Lahey and more). 4 STARS."
Guido Farnell (The Music) – "Rhea Caldwell comes off sounding a little like Kim Deal fronting Velvet Underground."
Rhea Caldwell is the driving force behind Baby Blue, a dynamic indie band blending pop, rock, folk, and Americana with raw, candid storytelling. What began as a solo project has now evolved into a six-piece act, channeling Rhea’s emotional honesty and vulnerability into powerful, infectious music.
Rhea’s journey hasn’t been easy. Struggling with bipolar disorder and multiple hospitalizations as well as the severance of her left hands median nerve, they faced immense personal challenges. Through it all, they found a sense of purpose in music, realizing how fleeting life can be. This realization led them to dedicate themself to writing songs that help others feel less alone in their struggles. As a mental health peer support worker, Rhea encourages people to speak up about their mental health and seeks to break the stigma surrounding it.
Baby Blue’s debut album Of My Window (2024) is a reflection of Rhea’s transformation and growth. The album weaves emotive storytelling with sophisticated melodies, exploring themes of love, mental health, and personal evolution. The band features an all-star lineup of Melbourne musicians, including Jesse Williams on lead guitar and recording duties (Leah Senior, Girlatones, Darren Hanlon, Simon Joyners AUS band The Eucalypts), Nathanael Riley on drums (19th Century Strongmen, Tim Guy), Claire Spooner on bass (Claire M. Spooner, Duncan Graham & The Way In), Lochlan Funston on percussion (808’s and Greatest Hits, Sunbeam Sound Machine)and Marlee Jayne Dalton on keys (Mature Themes). Together, they bring a fresh, electric sound that deepens the emotional impact of Rhea's songwriting.
Known for their raw energy and emotional depth, Baby Blue’s live shows are a testament to the band’s connection with their audience. Rhea’s story of resilience and hope continues to inspire, as Baby Blue aims to make listeners feel seen, heard, and understood.
